Clan Macmillan “Son of the tonsured servant”, descended from Cormac, Bishop of Dunkeld (d.1132). The clan sheltered Bruce and fought at Bannockburn. They held lands at Knapdale from c.1360. The chiefship passed to the Dunmore line in 1742, and later to General Sir Gordon Macmillan, recognized by the Lyon Court. Daniel Macmillan founded the famous publishing house; his grandson Harold Macmillan was British Prime Minister (1957–1963). A clan of priests, publishers, and prime ministers.
