Young
Clan Young, aΒ descriptive name for a son, synonymous with “Younger.” Sir Peter Young (1544β1628) was tutor to James VI and later Almoner, enjoying great royal favour. His son became ambassador to Sweden. Through Irish land grants, the name spread across Ulster. Descendants married into prominent families. Brigadier Peter Young, a descendant, was a decorated soldier and military historian, awarded the Military Cross three times. He founded the Sealed Knot Society (1968) for Civil War studies. A clan of tutors, ambassadors, and modern military historians.
