Farquharson

Clan Farquharson, descended from Farquhar (“beloved man”), fourth son of Alexander Shaw of Rothiemurchus (15th century). Finla Mor, the clan’s progenitor, died as royal standard‑bearer at Pinkie (1547). His nine sons founded many branches. Known as the “fighting Farquharsons.” The “Black Colonel” followed Bonnie Dundee in 1689. The clan fought at Culloden (1745). Anne Farquharson, married to a government‑serving Mackintosh chief, raised her husband’s clan for the Jacobites – earning the nickname “Colonel Anne.” A proud part of Clan Chattan.
