Anderson
Clan Anderson β βson of Andrewβ is found across Scotland, also as MacAndrew or Gillanders. First recorded in the 13th century, the name arose independently in many places. The northβeast held the largest grouping. Sir Alexander Anderson of Blelack founded the North of Scotland Bank, was Lord Provost of Aberdeen, and knighted in 1863. In Glasgow, the Andersons of Stobcross gave their name to the district of Anderston (βAndersonβs Townβ). The Andersons of Candacraig held their lands for ten generations before moving to Canada. In Fife, Anderson families produced ministers and East India Company servants. The crest is an oak tree Proper, with the motto βStand Sure.β
