The 5-yard kilt is a lightweight, budget-friendly alternative to the traditional 8-yard kilt. It is available in the full range of tartans from all the main mills.

Just like our heavier kilts, these garments are proudly Made in Scotland by our expert, in-house kilt makers. Premium detailing including fully canvas-lined with three leather straps and buckles to guarantee a secure, tailored fit.

While the 8-yard kilt is standard today, 5-yard kilts are actually the historical original! Early kilts were all crafted from 5 yards of fabric—initially box-pleated before the knife pleats used on this garment became fashionable. It wasn’t until the late 19th century that the heavier 8-yard styles took over as the norm.
