Robertson
Clan Robertson, More properly Clan Donnachaidh. Descended from the royal house of Duncan I. They fought at Bannockburn (1314). In 1437, Robert “the Grizzled” captured the assassin of James I and was rewarded with Struan. They feuded with the Stewarts of Atholl, losing lands. Alexander, “the Poet Chief,” followed James VII into exile, led the clan in 1715, escaped capture twice, and fled to France. The 15th chief regained Struan in 1784. It was sold in 1854; chiefs later lived in Jamaica and now England. A clan of royal blood, assassin‑catchers, and poet‑exiles.
