Clan Mackintosh, Toisech – “leader.” First chief Shaw, son of the Earl of Fife, was constable of Inverness (c.1163). Marriage to Eva, heiress of Clan Chattan, united the confederation under Mackintosh chiefs. They fought for Bruce, Montrose, and the Stuarts. In 1745, while the 22nd chief served in the Black Watch, his wife Lady Anne raised the clan for Prince Charlie. They fought at Falkirk but suffered heavily at Culloden. The chiefship passed to a cousin in 1938, then to Mackintosh of Torcastle in 1942. A clan of leaders, Jacobites, and enduring loyalty.
